Course Description (Reproductive Ultrasound):
This course will provide hands-on, in-depth instruction in the use of ultrasound for bovine reproductive examinations. The course is approximately half wet lab and half lecture/video. Class size is limited to 6-10 veterinarians depending on cow availability and number of instructors.
Classroom Lecture and Video
- Pregnancy diagnosis, twinning, fetal viability, and fetal anomalies
- Ovarian and uterine physiology and pathology
- Staging the cycle and ultrasound with synchronization programs
- Fetal sexing
- Ultrasound physics
- Practical tips for using ultrasound in the field
Wet Lab:
- A large dairy will provide plenty of cows for an excellent hands-on experience
- At least one ultrasound unit for every three participants
- At least one instructor or assistant for every four participants
Course Description (Medical and Surgical Ultrasound)
This course will provide hands-on, in-depth instruction in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of bovine medical and surgical cases. Course is approximately half lecture and half wet lab. Class size is limited to eight veterinarians.
- · Umbilical ultrasonography
- · Teat and udder ultrasonography
- · Thoracic ultrasonography (bovine respiratory diseases…)
- · Gastrointestinal tract ultrasonography (traumatic reticuloperitonitis, peritonitis, abomasal diseases, small intestine problems)
- · Liver ultrasonography (liver abscesses, fatty liver, thrombosis of the caudal vena cava)
- · Urinary tract ultrasonography (pyelonephritis, cystitis…)
